Sail Types
Green | <35kg sailors
Introduced in 2008 for the lightest racers. Initially it seemed to be slightly too shallow, but after its modification in 2009 it is ideal as the first sail for the youngest Optimist racers but it does not mean it is slow. In Cadetti group the racers using Classic Green happen to reach TOP3 in Riva del Garda Meeting or some races at the Worlds. Easy to trim, produced with plain or square cloth.
Blue | 36 to 43kg Sailors
Introduced in 2006, gradually getting its fair share in our product range. Excellent acceleration right after start and after turnings. Excellent performance in small waves as well as in big ones and at flat water conditions. Easy to trim, produced with plain or square cloth. Recently it has been used more and more frequently by heavier racers too.
Heretic | >40kg Sailors
The sail introduced in 2004, quite specific, a little slower than Red when sailing downwind. This sail is great for the racers with perfect technical abilities in lighter wind conditions. Its great feature is the best angles at tacking. Easy to trim, produced with plain or square cloth.
Red | >43kg Sailors
The basic JSail model introduced in 2000. The most successful sail used by many event winners. Excellent speed when sailing downwind. Marvellous performance in all nautical conditions, especially at long waves. In strong wind conditions it requires dynamic body and sheet work. Easy to trim, produced with plain or square cloth.
Black | >50kg Sailors
Introduced in 2011 as a sail that can prolong the Optimist career of the racers who need more thrust and can't find enough in other sails. Initially it can cause some rolling problems when sailing downwind with strong winds. The Classic Black has both its supporters as well as the opponents. The latter claim that Classic Red is simply better for them. Easy to trim, produced with plain or square cloth.
Cloth Types
There are two types of sail cloth. The difference is mostly visible and you will not find any considerable difference in performance.
Plain Cloth - Slightly lighter at 2.8 oz and creases tend to occur randomly. Prefered throughout Europe.
Square Cloth - Slightly heavier at 2.99 oz and creases tend to occur along the lines. New Zealand and South American's tend to prefer square cloth.
